The Shape of It 2018

KERRY VANDER MEER presents monochromatic works on paper for her exhibition, The Shape of It. The works exhibited are composed of small squares framed in groupings of four to six, and larger unframed pieces.  For the past few years, Vander Meer has been developing a new vocabulary using isolated shapes that reference the visual experience of daily life–an edge, a shadow, a feeling of space.  These new shapes exist within their own pictorial space, yet also refer to earlier 3-dimensional sculptures by the artist.  Vander Meer uses a printmaking technique developed in the 1930’s by WPA artists, called carborundum intaglio.  The technique give richness, density and depth to the ink.
